I like to say “If the client is king, then we’re their hit squad.” A small group of specialists that execute at peak efficiency.
I founded Royals & Rogues after spending over 10 years in the creative industry and getting frustrated on nearly all major projects. Everywhere I went I saw two problems:
I watched as projects that should have taken a week turned into months of revisions. On multiple occasions the final design approved by the client was the FIRST design a creative had made.
What happened? Middle management happened.
The original design had never made it to the client, it died somewhere along the chain of approval between the artist, studio head, creative director, agency management, and who knows who else, maybe someone’s kid didn’t like the color. In the end you know your brand better than any middle management and artists should be working to make the end client happy not the delivery guy.
Artists know how to interpret a brief and clients know what they want.
I originally thought the solution to this issue was to become a freelancer and work directly with clients. Low overhead and high control, this works great… as long as everything can be done by one person. Soon as you start a complex project like a large website, marketing campaign, or 3D animation, it is too much for one person to do quickly or well. If you have ever hired multiple freelancers for the same project you know how it goes. Management becomes a nightmare as you are essentially building a new creative studio from scratch for each project and all the benefits of direct contact with a freelancer quickly are outweighed by logistics.
I sat with these issues for 3 years talking to artists, Creative directors, and CCOs as I formed the perfect solution: A scalable creative agency that did all it’s work in house. Giving clients direct control and fast turnaround times while keeping one point of contact and having the ability to handle projects of all sizes but without the bloated budgets of a large agency.
There are 3 key steps to our success:
This does loose us that “Madmen” style that creative studios love, but let’s be honest, the agency in Madmen was about as dysfunctional as they come. Let’s drop the high highs and low lows and make consistent quality work that clients love and we are proud of.
So if you’d rather have a crack team of specialists specifically chosen for your project over an army of staff who are taking a cut whether or not they touch your project. Give us a call, and get your own team of rogues.
